I have always had trust in the influence of all aspects of music and theatre that boost the performer and the audience to a close encounter with their own human reality; the theatre experience transporting them deeply into their capacity for empathy, compassion and imagination. This can occur through creating artistic and appealing experiences which awaken all participants to their place in the world, both locally and globally, and which give them an opportunity to learn, expand and take action. Well executed and live presentations can and has the capability of changing human perspective, both for the production member as well as for the spectator.
My artistic curiosities lay in combining my training and experience as a performer and musician, where emotional truth and expression are primary, with my experience as a nurturing holistic performing arts educator, exposed to many heartfelt creative and diverse influences which potentially will express an innovative presentation to the theatrical event. My goal as a director is to offer a unique journey to the production team as well as the audience which would hopefully celebrate the potential of humankind by linking them all on an emotional, spiritual and physical level.
When I approach any new project, I seek all the conceivable connections that can be layered into the event, even if that event is singularly the production and presentation of a play. It is the cultural and historical after-effects found within the work, in my opinion, which are the central focus of the work. As choral director and theatre instructor, my focus is on the power of that particular story we are exploring and how to take that tale and bring it to an expressive form through a process of complete artistic inclusion and development. It is my intent that the experience for the actor-performer and the audience carries beyond the last moment of the final scene and that the sights, dialogue and sounds dwell in their memory with long lasting emotional significance.
I offer a supportive personal and nurturing approach to the art of performing. My vocal technique stems from vocal therapy training and the purity of tonal resonance I studied when a student in England. My theatrical training stems from the Stanislavski philosophy. I believe in understanding the inner self, the voice, the person, proper exercise as well as healthy singing. My keyboard training is in both traditional, classical as
well as contemporary styles- skill development in piano lessons is inclusive of music theory, fingering, scales, piano technique, sight reading, all basic rudiments of music as well as exploration of ear training and improvisation. I facilitate instruction in order for my students to sing and play freely and beautifully with improved technique and/or vocal resonance, expand their knowledge, range and dynamics, strengthen and
integrate the vocal registers, two hand technique, sight reading and composition skills and above all, overall development of confidence.
